Mike Deeson is a general assignment reporter who works hard to cover the stories that affect peoples lives. During his 18 years at 10 NEWS, Deeson has reported on everything from crime to corruption and from fraud to foreign affairs. He joined WTSP in June of 1982.

Throughout the years, Deeson has garnered awards from many professional organizations. For example, in 1999 Deeson won a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award for his three part series on the computer scares relating to the Year 2000 (portion of that series is included in this submission). At the time the series ran last February, many viewers had yet to hear of the Y2K crisis or had little understanding of its potential impact. The challenge was to take an inherently non-visual story and hold the viewers attention while helping them digest massive amounts of information.

In 1992, Deeson won Best Media Award from the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council for "Bridging the Bay." In 1990, he received Outstanding Achievement from the Society for Professional Journalists. In 1989, he won First Place from the National Coalition for Childrens Rights in Washington, D.C. for the series "Abandoned Grandparents."

Deeson came to WTSP from WAVY-TV in Norfolk, Virginia where he was a general assignment reporter and won two Virginia Associated Press Awards for "Spot News."

Deeson lives in the Tampa Bay area with his family. His hobbies include writing country music and playing keyboards
